Chapter 5 - Meet

 --Chapter 4--                                                Home                                 --Chapter 6--

I could tell she was my grandmother; she looked just like mom, just 40 years older. I sat down on the sofa next to her, and placed her warm hand on my thigh.
Thank you I mouthed at mom. Renée wasn't like Grandma Esme. Esme was good to cuddle, but she didn't warm me up. I loved them both dearly though.
'Are you staying here?' I asked Grandma Renée and Phil.
'Yes, we're sleeping in your mom and dad's bed for the week!' Renée said, delighted at the fact she was she was spending a week with the daughter she hadn't seen since the wedding 20 years ago, and the granddaughter she had never met.
'Mom, can I speak with you for a second?' She nodded and we went into my bedroom.
'What were you thinking mom? I mean, it would be fine if they were staying in a hotel, but they are probably expecting home-cooked family meals every night! What's your excuse going to be when you need to go hunting?'
Mom looked up at me; I noticed her contacts had dissolved.
'Okay, your father and I came up with an excuse, its not bad!' she told me 'In the mornings, we're going to leave the house at 9am, leaving you at home with them. You're on a vacation from College, studying English, and your dad is the manager of a small accountants company, and I am a secretary at The Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle. But we're actually going to be at the big house until 7pm. At 5 every night you'll have to cook them a meal, except for Friday, your birthday, Jake's taking you out for dinner at 6, we'll sort something out.' that was a good plan, but what I was trying to figure out is what I would do with them in the day.
We went back into the living room and Grandma Renée was complementing Jacob's fitness. Phil was talking about baseball with dad. I put my hand on mom's face telling her about the contacts then watched as she quickly walked to the bathroom. I went and sat next to Jacob on the floor, snuggled under his arm and played with my hair. Grandma Renée watched us smiling as Jacob kissed my forehead.
Jacob left half an hour later, he was on patrol with the rest of the pack at 1. Mom and Dad had said they'd take the day off to welcome them into our home, but they had to go in at 5.
Human food was quite nice, although I preferred the thrill of hunting. That night I made chicken salad, which was quite nice. I went to bed at 10; mom and dad were "Working Overtime". I heard Grandma Renée and Phil go to bed at 10:30. I folded the corner of the page of Romeo and Juliet, and fell asleep.
