Chapter 7 - Tears

--Chapter 6--                                                Home                                  --Chapter 8--

Mom gently shook me awake.

“Sweetie, you’ve got to get up now” she whispered. I opened my eyes and looked at her. I could tell she was forcing the smile plastered on her face. I had only one question, rather than ask I showed her.

Where is Grandma? I asked.

“She’s asleep,’ mom answered. I pulled my hand away from my face as I wanted to talk.

“What happened last night?” I asked, praying that it was a dream. I’d gone to sleep after explaining about my vampire family to Renée, my human grandmother.

“We got her talking, they asked some questions, then they went to bed.” Mom replied. I smiled, maybe she would stay for my birthday after all, and I’d considered her my special birthday gift. She’d flown from Jacksonville, just to meet her only grandchild, the only one she would ever get, and I wouldn’t let the fact that we were vampires drive her out of my life.

Mom kissed my forehead and left the room, so that I got get dressed. I had more clothes than any girl would dream about having, thanks to Aunt Alice. I was constantly catching her buying clothes from the internet. I wore long vest top, leggings, a grey cardigan and my grey Ugg™ Boots. After combing my hair, I put in a hair slide and applied my makeup. When I walked into the living room, Renée and Phil were sitting on the couch watching TV and eating eggs.

“Morning sweetheart,” Renée smiled when she’d noticed I’d joined them. I smiled back then walked to the kitchen, where mom was frying up eggs and dad was reading the newspaper.

“Morning mom, morning dad,” I smiled and sat up on the counter.

“Your breakfast is ready sweetie,” mom said, tipping eggs onto a plate. They smelled good. I took them into the living room and sat down. CNN was on the TV, reporting on the Forks murders. This was the first time Forks had ever gotten this much attention from the media. The pictures of the 78 people who’d been killed or gone missing flashed up on the screen. Uncle Jasper told me that something exactly like this happened in Seattle around 21 years ago. A nomad vampire had created an army of newborn vampires to try and kill my mother. Apparently this was something like that, but Grandpa Carlisle, Dad and Uncle Jasper had no idea what this vampire was after. Aunt Alice couldn’t see anything the vampire had decided, she’d only seen that we were going to get in some kind of trouble. Whoever it was, was finding loopholes in her visions, as if they knew everything about our family. This was almost identical to what happened in Seattle, but they’d killed everybody involved.

I hadn’t realised I hadn’t moved or eaten for about 5 minutes until Grandma Renée snapped me out of my daydreams.

“Renesmee dear? Sweetie, are you okay?” she asked.

“What? Oh, yeah, I was just day dreaming,” I smiled.

“Is this...” Phil said pointing to the TV, “Is this the doing of, um, vampires?” I frowned and nodded. I knew I couldn’t say anything, as if the Volturi found out that Renée and Phil knew we would be destroyed.

Turning my head, I noticed mom and dad staring into each other’s eyes; this was how they communicated in secret, when they didn’t wish for me to hear. When mom stretched her shield over dad, he could hear her thoughts and he used his face to answer back. But mom was learning to read other people’s minds; she was getting pretty good at it. I’d always wondered what they talked about like that, me most likely.

I was snapped out of my daydream once again when I felt Grandma Renée’s eyes staring at me. I turned to look at her. Her eyes were studying me, from head to toe. When I looked directly into her eyes, I could tell that she was terrified.

“Grandma,” I asked “Are you alright?” I pursed her lips and slowly closed her eyes. I then felt mom and dad sit either side of me.

“Renée, Phil, I know this... is hard to take in, but we would never hurt you, you are perfectly safe with us.” Dad explained, Grandma’s eyes stayed shut until a tear slid slowly down her cheek. Seeing this, mom buried her face in my hair and began sobbing. I cried too, allowing my warm salty tears smudge my perfect mascara. Phil comforted Grandma, while dad comforted me and mom.

An hour had passed, Phil and Grandma had gone for a walk, Aunt Alice, Aunt Rosalie and Grandma Esme had taken mom shopping and dad had gone hunting with Uncle Emmett, Uncle Jasper and Grandpa Carlisle, leaving me alone. I invited Jacob over to hang out. We watched a movie and ate Doritos™ and popcorn, well, Jacob ate Doritos™ and popcorn, I wasn’t hungry.

A while into the movie, my cell phone began ringing.

“Hello?”

“Nessie? It’s Alice, you need to get to Forks hospital, now!”

“Why? What’s happened?” I asked, panicking.

“Nothing major, Phil tripped and broke his ankle, your mom insists on you going to visit.” “Oh okay bye! Love you!” I said, and then put the phone in my purse. Jacob had heard everything, so he’d already put on his shirt ready to leave. I got onto the back of his motorcycle and we sped off toward the hospital.
