Chapter 1 - Massacre

'HIGHEST MURDER RATE FORKS HAS SEEN' the local newspaper headline read. Carlisle just sat with his head in his hands. We all knew this was a vampire, a newborn possibly? We'd all been out watching at night, but we never saw anything, even though there were up to 20 murders every week, and it had been going on for over 4 weeks now. Ever since I'd been changed into a vampire I'd been let into everything that Edward would have kept from me "to keep me safe" as a human. The strange thing about these murders was that whoever it was left no traces of them being there. They didn't even spill any blood, as newborns usually would. It took me 3 years until I mastered it, but this was definitely a newborn, the acts were blood thirsty. Carlisle and Edward had spent days studying the murders, but they had gotten more or less nowhere. Renesmee and the wolves watched in the day as they needed to sleep at night. It was 3am; Edward and I were lying in our bed in silence. I could hear Nessie lightly snoring in the next room. Laying deep in thought, I thought about Nessie and Jacob, how their relationship was moving on, and Charlie. My dad had found love in Seth and Leah Clearwater's mom, Sue. He was over there almost every day, she was more than happy to have his company, after her late husband, Harry, died after a heart attack and since her two children had joined the wolf pack.
'What are you thinking?' Edward asked smiling my favourite crooked smile.
'Nothing really,' I answered, his face making me skip a breath, 'Just about Charlie,' Charlie sort of knew about us now, although he came to his own conclusions after my best friend Jacob phased into his wolf form in front of him . My daughter Renesmee was 19 years old and it was late August so she would be 20 in a few days so we had planned a huge surprise party for her. Jacob was doing a good job at keeping this secret, if this for anyone but his girlfriend, the absolute love of his life, the girl he imprinted on, he would have told her by now. We were all afraid this vampire's malicious acts would ruin our daughter's big day, although we were determined that it wouldn't. Edward and I had splashed out on a new car, a dress, jewellery and books for her birthday. Jacob had made her a bracelet with a carved wooden wolf, identical to the one he had made me when I graduated from high school.
I looked at the clock; the time had passed so quickly, it was 8am. Renesmee had trouble waking up in the mornings, so I had to wake her.
Lightly knocking on the door I heard her stirring, so I went in,
'Sweetie, it's time to wake up,' I said, as I walked over and sat on the edge of her bed and stroked her warm forehead as she opened her big chocolate brown eyes to look at me.
'Morning Momma,' she mumbled. Although she wasn't a baby anymore, she still called me Momma, she had always been my baby girl. I kissed her cheek, then got off the bed to go to my bedroom to get dressed.
When I entered the bedroom, I noticed Edward sitting on the bed rubbing the bridge of his nose as if he had a headache, although I knew that was impossible. His cell phone was lying beside him.
'What's wrong?' I asked.
'We have to move.’'What are you thinking?' Edward asked smiling my favourite crooked smile.
